Director of the Guild of Health and St. Raphael, writer, theologian

An ordained priest and former research physicist, Gillian Straine received her BSc (2000) in Physics from Imperial College London, and defended he PhD (2005) at the same institution. Her research focussed on experimental observations and computational modelling of radiative transfer in Earth’s upper atmosphere.

Gillian holds a MA (2008) in Theology from the University of Oxford and was ordained as an Anglican Priest. She is currently the director of the Guild of Health and St Raphael, an organisation which focuses on Christian healing. Her academic interest is in linking healing and pastoral theology with the broader field of science and religion.

​

She speaks widely on science and religion, and is part of the Equipping Scientific leadership in the Age of Science project. This includes developing syllabus for the Common Awards scheme, and working with the Scientists in Congregations project. She has previously chaired the environmental work in the diocese of Oxford, and is now a trustee of the Christian Evidence Society.
