We live in an age of rapid scientific and technological advances. Some see these as exciting and positive, while others worry about the social, environmental, and ethical implications of new technologies or question the value of science. How should the Church be addressing these issues? In this half-day event, we will look at the reasons why the Church should engage with science, and how ministers and preachers can do this confidently – even if they don’t have a science background.
The keynote talk will be given by Dr Ruth Bancewicz. Ruth is the Church Engagement Director at the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at Cambridge University. She holds degrees in both genetics and theology, and has recently contributed a chapter titled ‘Engaging the Church and Wider Christian Community in Science-Faith Dialogue’ to Global Perspectives on Science and Christianity (Brownnutt & Fox, editors).
